Śrīla Prabhupāda taught that we should worship Tulasī after maṅgala-ārātrika. Prabhupāda gave the mantras to prostrate himself before her, to bypass her and to collect leaves from her.
In the mantra for prostrating, note that Śrīla Prabhupāda did not use the words: kṛṣṇa-bhakti prade devī.
He taught: viṣṇu-bhakti prade devī.
Therefore worship begins with prostrating before Tulasī Devī chanting the following mantra:
vṛndāyai tulasī -devyai
priyāyai keśavasya ca
viṣṇu-bhakti-prade devī
satyavatyai namo namaḥ
I offer my obeisances again and again to Śrīmati Tulasī Devī, who is very dear to Lord Keśava. O Goddess, you render devotional service to Lord Viṣṇu and possess the highest truth.
After repeating this prayer three times, prostrate at the lotus feet of Tulasī, one should get up and start chanting the tulasī-kīrtana, while offering him incense, a ghee lamp and some flowers. This worship can be done, as Kṛṣṇa Kṣetra Prabhu once commented, by meditating on Tulasī as the divine plant or as the gopī who eternally serves The Divine Couple. One can rotate each of these three articles seven times around the Tulasī plant, or one can offer the articles as they are offered to the Deities on altars or to Śrīla Prabhupāda in the Vyāsāsana. To worship in this way, one twirls the incense around Tulasī seven times and does the same with the flower. However, before offering the flower, when you offer the ghe lamp, you should offer it by circling Tulasī’s lotus feet four times, two times around the abdomen area, three times around his face, and finally seven times around the entire body. body of Tulasī Devī. When the tulasī kīrtana is finished and the devotees begin to circulate it, they should chant the following mantra given by Śrīla Prabhupāda:
yāni kani ca pāpāni
brahma-hatyādikāni ca
tāni tāni praṇaśyanti
pradakṣiṇah suffers
By circling Tulasī, step by step all the sins committed are destroyed, even that of killing a brāhmaṇa.
After circling Tulasī Devī a few times, devotees purify their hands with the water of the pañcapātra, and then moisten their soil with some drops of water from it, or another pañcapātra. Finally, when all the devotees have had the opportunity to water Tulasī Devī, they prostrate again and recite the mantra of offering reverence to Tulasī Devī.
So Tulasī remains in the center of the room that is occupied to chant the japa, as this gives the devotees an opportunity to continue bypassing it and to get rid of the reactions of their previous sins more and more, which is indispensable in order to be able to attain devotional service (see Bhagavad-gītā 7.28).
After the Deity on the altar has been bathed by her and the caraṇāmṛta is ready, as well as other mahā-prāsadam flowers of the Deity are available, another complementary worship can be started. This form of worship was not taught by Śrīla Prabhupāda. Even when a devotee named Vidyā Dāsī asked Siíla Prabhupāda for permission, in 1976, to introduce some mantras of this worship that we are going to explain now.
Śrīla Prabhupāda replied, “Do not introduce anything new. Just serve it with devotion. ” However, before leaving, Śrīla Prabhupāda authorized some senior devotees to inquire further about the worship performed by the Vaiṣṇavas, according to tradition. And so, in the books that were published by an ISKCON GBC commission, the following worship process appears for Śrīmati Tulasī Devī:
During the morning, after worshiping the Deities, the pūjārī should perform this worship. You should hold in your hands a tray with the following products: a) pañcapātra with water, b) arghya (that has been offered to Kṛṣṇa) in a shell or other container, c) flowers, d) candana, e) caraṇāmṛta of the Deity, f) garlands or prasādam flowers, g) an empty container for collecting Tulasī leaves
