Question: When we have to leave this body, will Sri guru be there for us? One devotee gave class and said that Srila Prabhupada’s expression “fly your own airship” means you cannot depend on anyone else at that time?

Jayapataka Swami: I heard the example from Srila Prabhupada that just as a bird has to fly itself, it cannot be carried by the other bird. But scientists have told us that the lead bird takes more resistance from the wind and those who are flying in a formation, they get 30% less resistance from the wind. So the lead bird takes some of the load from the others, but each bird has to fly itself. So like that we have to practice Krsna consciousness, we have to rise in the morning, chant our japa, do the bhakti yoga seva and we cannot delegate that to anyone else. Some things you have to do. But at the time of death, it is a very crucial moment, it is like the final test of all our activities. At that time Krsna, Guru, in the form of their instructions, sometimes in their personal appearance, in different ways are there to help us. If we take their help, if we remember their lotus feet so although we have to plan our own fight, we get help from Guru and Gauranga in many ways. Hare Krsna!
