Question: In the temple while performing Tulasi arati, the deity altar remains closed. When doing guru puja or Prabhupada puja it is open. What is the reason for both?

Jayapataka Swami: Usually we perform Tulasi puja in the temple itself. Some Gaudiya mathas have the deity of Tulasi outside. If that is the case, then doesn’t matter. But if the Tulasi is right in front of the deity, then we wait usually till the deities are closed. Srila Prabhupada, his murti is usually in the North mandir. It is away, like in Mayapur it is on the opposite of the deity, so that is considered like a separate room. If the deity is very close or the deity is in front of the Prabhupada Murti then we wait till the deity gets closed. But if the deity is on the opposite side of the room or in some other direction then it shouldn’t be a problem.
