Question: In a letter to Hayagriva, Srila Prabhupada wrote, “if one is a poor man, he can go to some friend’s home and accept food and then come back. But one should never accept residence in another’s house.” What is the reason one can accept food but should not accept residence in another’s house?

Jayapataka Swami: You know, why don’t you ask a question on my class? I would say, the reason we can accept food but we never accept residence, because our guru has told like that. Ha! Ha! We should follow sadhu, sastra and guru. So since our guru has said this, then why will we not follow? Living in someone’s house is different than taking a meal. So we are allowed to take a meal but not to live.
