Mukham karoti vacalam pangum langayate girim
Yat kripa tam aham vande sri gurum dina tarinam
Paramananda Madhavam Sri Caitanya Isvaram
I am very happy to be here, tonight seeing all the active congregation of Guwahati. Lord Caitanya taught that whether one is a grihasta or a brahmachari or a vairagi, grihe thako bone thako, practice Krsna consciousness. For every yuga there is a yuga dharma. In Kali yuga, the yuga dharma is Harinam. Kalau tad Hari kirtanaad. We are very that people are chanting the Hare Krsna maha mantra. And that so many grihasta devotees and other devotees are coming forward to participate. Actually, the main purpose of human life is to solve the problems – what is the real problem? Birth, old age, death and disease. And we don’t give much importance to these. These things we have to go through because we are in the material world. But in the spiritual world there is no death, no old age, no death, no disease. We would like to see all of you transferred to the spiritual world! Who wants to go to the spiritual world? Haribol! Then we are in the right place! There are many customers here! So the purpose of human life is to be peaceful and happy. Getting to form a relationship with Krsna. I mentioned a few times that Krsna came to this valley at least twice. He came here on Garuda with Satyabhama. And also fought with Narakasura here. Bhaumadeva, he had bad association and became a demon. So it is very important to have good association. That is why this type of gathering is very auspicious. This is sat sanga. We have also made different groups of devotees like bhakti vrksa, namahatta, where people can associate with other devotees, chant Hare Krsna and discuss Bhagavad-gita. So Lord Caitanya gave three instructions. – Bolo Krsna, chant the holy names of Krsna, bhajo Krnsa, that means worship Krsna and also serve Krsna and koro Krsna shika, Bhagavad-gita was spoken by Sri Krsna and Srimad Bhagavatam was spoken about Lord Krsna. So both are Krsna shika. So we are trying to discuss Bhagavad-gita and Srimad Bhagavatam. In Mayapur we have the Temple of Vedic Planetarium which is under construction. There we want to show how the puranas also present the good science. There we give the cosmology of the universe. Now the scientists have sent a spacecraft, Voyager. Ten thousand years from now it will reach the next galaxy. And then it will send back a message if there is life in those galaxies. So are you all ready to wait for ten thousand years? Or you can read the Srimad Bhagavatam. In one year, you can find out what is going on in the universe. Fourteen planetary systems and beyond the material world there is Mahesh dhama where Lord Siva resides. After that is the Viraja river. You cross that and reach the Brahmajyoti. Then you come to Hari dhama. Hari dhama is very Lord Narayana and Lord Ramacandra are. You cross that and you go to Goloka dhama where Lord Krsna lives. And this Hari dhama and Goloka dhama are all part of the Vaikuntha planets. So how many of you who have mobile phones? Ha! So when you have a network card, a SIM card, you cannot call God with that. But you can call Him with this mobile phone which is the Maha Mantra! Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare! Immediately you establish a connection! And so you are talking with the Lord continuously. By chanting japa you are talking to the Lord every day! Hare Krsna! So this way your connection with Krsna is assured. Every religion has this system, in the churches they have rosary. And in Islam they have tasbi. In Iskcon, we have japa mala. Ha! Hare Krsna! So we invite and we hope that everyone can chant at least one mala every day. It takes approximately seven and a half minutes to complete one mala. Initiated disciples, we chant at least minimum 16 rounds a day. That is a crore names of Krsna in a year! In many buses they have this sign in Mumbai, kaun banega crorepati? We want to make you crorepatis of the Harinam! Haribol! So Rupa Goswami says how much ananda, how much bliss there is in those two syllables. Krs and na. So before any big festival like Janamastami when we have the adivas ceremony day before, we have the adivas kirtan. One of the songs in that kirtan regarding the chanting of the Hare Krsna mantra – ananade sima noi, ananda sima noi, niraananda dure jai, niraananda dure jai. There is no end to the bliss you get by chanting the Hare Krsna mantra and serving Lord Krsna. So normally it is very hard to get this love from Krsna, Krsna Prema. But Lord Caitanya and Lord Nityananda, They are giving this Prema freely! Without considering who is qualified and who is not. They give freely! Hari name udharilo, papi tapi joto cilo, Hari name udharilo, tar sakhi Jagai Madhai re. So even sinful people they also are delivered, The proof of that is Jagai and Madhai. So what to speak of all you pious people? By the mercy of Lord Caitanya and Lord Nityananda you can all chant Hare Krsna and develop your love for Krsna. So this facility is there for all congregational members. Many of you are special guests – Sankarsan Nitai prabhu from Mayapur – he is also establishing a college in Vrndavan. And he has many bhakti vrksa groups and youth groups in different cities. He is also a candidate for sanyas. So then he can speak a few words. Oh you already spoke? Ok.
I heard that you may have some questions. You may ask questions from guru maharaj. I hope I will be able to speak a little Hindi. I stay in Mayapur and therefore learnt Bengali. I wanted to teach Assamese but couldn’t learn much. I learnt a few slokas of Sankaradeva. Eka deva eka seva eke bina nahi keho. If you have any questions? Rukmini Krsna came! Haribol! Govindam Adi Purusam Tam aham bhajami! Any questions? You can write your questions.
Question: Hare Krsna dear guru maharaj: Can you please tell about your first visit to Assam, like how you constructed the Rukmini Krsna temple and how you made the preaching possible in Assam and your experience?
Guru maharaj: Many years ago, about forty years ago, right?! We had some life members who were helping us and they would contact the municipal people and in various ways help us. One of them was, he was believing in the Sankaracarya philosophy, which was that the ultimate Truth was the impersonal Brahmajyoti. But he was helping us in various ways. So according to our philosophy, Krsna is the origin of the Brahmajyoti. Krsna says in the Bhagavad-gita, brahmano pratistaham. I am the basis of the Brahmajyoti. So I explained this to the people and showed what Krsna said. Of course, it was difficult and took time for people to digest it. But eventually, they understood it. Anyway, in the Bhagavat purana, there are three forms of the Absolute – sat cit ananda. The impersonal Brahman, the Paramatma and Bhagavan. Narayana or Rama or Krsna – He has unlimited forms. So complete form of Krsna is to worship Brahman, Paramatma and Bhagavan. So whatever we are doing, building the temples or solving problems, the patrons even though they believed in different philosophies, yet they were assisting us. And we know that by serving Krsna, we get benefit eternally. So of course building the temple facility was one, but also building the Krsna consciousness in the congregation. So there were many people that we are grateful to for helping us build the temple. The devotees in the temple like Sriji prabhu, Gauradev prabhu, Bhavabhuti prabhu and many others in the congregation. Too many to just say now! So Krsna never forgets! Who won the Olympics twelve years ago, we forget. But we do a service for Krsna, He never forgets! Haribol! Any other questions?
Question: Hare Krsna! (Guru maharaj said: HARE KRSNA!) My dear guru maharaj: How one initiated disciple is constantly attached to his spiritual master and how he is devoted for preaching in his spiritual life?
Guru maharaj: Very naturally I am very grateful to Srila Prabhupada, he saved me from the materialistic life. My grandfather was a multi-millionaire but my father and uncle they did not know what was the purpose of life. So I am very grateful that Srila Prabhupada saved me from this fallen situation. And so naturally, I feel attached to Srila Prabhupada. He used to come to Mayapur at least twice a year and in the fall he would come for a month and a half or so. Aswin Kartika month – September, October and November he would come for a month or a month and a half and he would do translation every day. I would see him and I was told that when you see the guru say something humbling. And ask for something spiritual blessing. I would do this, every day, but sometimes he would give a very surprising, honest answer, those answers I remember. One time I went and I said: “Prabhupada, I am the most fallen!” He said: “you are not the most anything!” Ha! One time I went and said, “Prabhupada, I want to serve you life after life!” Prabhupada replied: “Why do you want to make me come back?” I thought later, should I have asked this question? What did I say wrong? Then later I said: Prabhupada, I want to serve you EVEN life after life!” If I have to come back, even then I want to serve you. Like that, there were different things. One time, Prabhupada wanted some milk, to heat up some milk and give him. So the milk was not hot. So the servant went down. I was just a witness. The servant went and got hot milk. And it was so hot and Prabhupada touched it and said “Ah! It is too hot!” The servant who brought the milk said, but Prabhupada, you said you wanted milk that was as hot as possible! Prabhupada said: “Yes, but not IMPOSSIBLE! “ So seeing these things with Prabhupada was very educational. And naturally, we go attached to Prabhupada. So Prabhupada told me to stay in India and become an Indian citizen. Now I am an Indian citizen and I also voted some time ago! Last question.
Question: Hare Krsna guru maharaj. PAMHO. (Guru maharaj said: Accepted!). You have many courses. And in one of the courses you said that the devotees should act as nuts and bolts in Iskcon. Could you please explain that?
Guru maharaj: Everybody, all the congregational members and all the devotees in the temple, are part of the machine that is serving Krsna to help bring souls back to Godhead. And so we should all feel part of that effort. Someone is doing arati for the deity, someone is cooking for the deity, someone is getting donation for serving the temple. Others are doing bhakti vrksa groups. So some ladies teach other ladies, some men are teaching other men. They are all trying to help spread Krsna consciousness. So we should all feel part of that effort and we should see everyone else also as part of that effort. So it may be a major part or a minor part but every part is important. Like a machine, a car, even a small bolt is very important. Like the wheel if there is a bolt which is not right, that will cause a problem. So everyone is part of that effort. Right? That is why I want to thank all of you that you are part of the effort and a very important part. Thank you very much!
