Jayapataka Swami: The point is that we should do everything out of attachment to Kṛṣṇa. We give our compassion to devotees, out of our attachment to Kṛṣṇa. We want to please Kṛṣṇa. So, we show our compassion to some devotee. But as Lord Caitanya said in the third verse of the Sīkṣāṣṭaka, we should not expect any reciprocation. Maybe we offer some respect to others, and we expect to have some reciprocation, that’s māyā. We should avoid that and that is the advice of Lord Caitanya. In this way, one can always chant the holy name. But if we give respect to someone, and become attached to that person, and that person doesn’t reciprocate, then we can suffer, and then that impedes your chanting of Hare Kṛṣṇa. So,we are advised not to do that, not to expect any appreciation, we just do it out of our attachment to Kṛṣṇa.
