Guru Maharaj:I don’t see the connection. The ācārya or sannyāsī is kept in samādhi and his body is covered with salt and then dirt. Normally, we would put the body immediately in samādhi, not keep it until it smells, or something like that. And normally, if the body is cremated, we do that also within the nearest day time. And I don’t see the relationship with someone, who keeps the body until it smells. We normally don’t do that. Since the body had to be either cremated or buried, usually we respect the sannyāsīs and gurus, ācāryas, with a samādhi, they have another name in Uḍupī.
