HH JAYAPATAKA SWAMI GURU MAHARAJ, EVENING ADDRESS, CAITANYA BOOK COMPILATION, CHENNAI, 24 NOVEMBER 2018
Nama Om…
Mukham karoti vaachalam…
So we continue with the compilation of the Krishna Caitanya book and yesterday we had the Raasa Purnima and we broke our fast from Bhishma Panchaka and the chatur maas is completed and now we are back to our regular diet! Lord Caitanya, He would stay in different places during the monsoon season. One time He stayed at Srirangam for four days and He took prasadam with the head priest and his son Gopala Bhatta was eager to serve Him. So eventually Gopala Bhatta was sent to Vrndavan and he became one of the six Goswamis. So Lord Caitanya left Navadvip as Nimai Pandit. He went to perform the rituals for his deceased father at Gaya. But there He met Ishwara Puri. He took initiation and He started to manifest Krishna bhakti. He saw the lotus footprint of Vishnu in Gaya and He was overwhelmed with the ecstasy of love of Krishna. He cried, His hairs stood on end, so many things. So then He went back to Navadvip and on the way He stopped as Kanainaathshaala, which is now under Iskcon, and there He saw Krishna and Krishna embraced Him and then He ran away. So Lord Caitanya since that time had been mad in separation from Krishna. So when He came back to Navadvip, He was not the same person. He was not recognized by the people. His character had changed. Now He was Krishna conscious. So we read this history in Caitanya Bhagavat. Now we will read the history as given in Caitanya Mangal.
Today I resumed by physiotherapy and after that I attended the EIDC through internet, that is Eastern India Divisional Council. They are meeting in Puri. Now we hand over the mike to Devagauranga das.
So the Lord, He came back to Nadia. His consciousness was very blissful. He had a happy heart and stayed with His friends and relatives.
The Navadvip residents who were the sons of brahmanas, they were very pure in their activities. They were coming from very pure families. They were the most fortunate in the three worlds. The Lord Himself, Vishwambhar, gave instructions to these boys in the form of transcendental knowledge.
After the Lord performed His bath in the Ganges, as soon as the Lord returned, His students came and were assembled there. The Lord Gaurasundar, He was engaged in the loving service of Krishna in the mood of separation and He did not explain anything other than Krishna. But His students could not at all understand the current condition of their teacher Nimai Pandit.
So other than Krishna, no other sound came from the Lord’s mouth. The students could not understand anything.
By the students’ request, the Lord sat down to teach His students the glories of the Supreme Lord to them.
His students opened their books by chanting the name of Hari. When Sachinandan, son of mother Sachi, heard this, He was greatly pleased.
When the Lord heard the chanting of the name of Lord Hari, He lost His external consciousness. He gave His auspicious glance to all the students. The Jewel of the Twice Born, gave His auspicious glance to all His students.
Being fully absorbed in Krishna, Lord Gaurasundar explained how in all the sutras, aphorisms and commentaries, the names of Hari was present. It is a long commentary and so Nimai Pandit was fully absorbed in love of Krishna and through His teachings He explained that the name of Hari was the only purpose of all the shaastras, sutras, aphorism and commentaries. The name of Hari could be understood by three angles, vidwad rudhi, conventional meaning according to enlightened souls or enlightened process, that is vidwad rudhi. The other one is sadhana rudhi, the conventional meaning, according to the ordinary persons and then there is aagya rudhi the mundane teachers of grammar, who are attached to sense gratification and they explain the holy name conducive to sense enjoyment. So one should not see any different Krishna and Vishnu. And also any difference between Supreme Lord Vishnu and His holy names. A person who sees the difference between person Krishna and His holy name is compelled by the aagya rudhi that means he is bewildered by the material energy or the illusory energy of the Lord. So the holy names are situated in the spiritual world and in the enlightened process of vidwad rudhi, they see every sound of Krishna’s name unfolds in the spiritual sky and Krishna’s service as completely non-different from the Lord and His holy names. Otherwise in this material world a person is different from his body. We say my hand, my foot, my head but who is the me? That is the living force in the body. When the living force leads the body, the body is considered dead. Actually the body is never alive but the presence of the spirit soul puts a spark of life in the body. When the soul leaves the body, the body becomes motionless. Starts to decay, eaten by worms or vultures or fire. Depending on what they do to the body after death.
So the Lord said “at all times, the holy names of Krishna is true, the eternal truth. All scriptures describe the names of Krishna and nothing else”. So the holy names of Krishna are not temporary things, Subject to creation and annihilation within the jurisdiction of time. Since there is no material difference between the names of Krishna and Krishna Himself, the form of Krishna, the form of Krishna which is the personified source of time, His holy names are at all times the undivided truth, all vaishnava literatures have no aim other than Krishna. As stated in Harivamsa all the Vedic literature including Mahabharata and Ramayana and other puranas from the very beginning to the end and also in the middle, only Hari the Supreme Personality of Godhead is described.
Krishna is the Supreme controller, the creator, the maintainer and the annihilator. Everyone beginning from Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva is His servant. So Shiva and Brahma are the topmost in the material world and they are Krishna’s or Vishnu’s servants. Krishna is the original Vishnu. He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead and is the cause of all causes. He is the original creator, maintainer and annihilator of all universes, which are unlimited millions of universes. So Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva are empowered secondary agents under the instructions of Lord Krishna and therefore they are established as predominating deities in the mode of passion and ignorance.
Anyone who gives up the shelter of the lotus feet of Lord Krishna and explains things as being separate from Krishna, because of his false statements, his life is considered useless due to his false statements. Krishna alone is the cause of all causes and the original source of everything. The acharyas describe about the people who give up the service of the lotus feet of Lord Krishna as being proud, asslike, ignorant people and they distort the meaning of the scriptures with superficial speculations and explanations. They waste their rarely attained human birth. As they are described in Srimad Bhagavatam Mahapurana as actually jivan mrtya, living dead. Jivan shava, dead bodies or svasan shava, dead although breathing. So this human form of life is meant to get out of this material world which is like a prison house and go to the spiritual sky where we actually belong. But people waste their human life by making false statements of the holy names and Krishna. So sense gratification can be received in any of the animal kingdom but knowledge about the Supreme Lord is very rare and is only understood by the human beings. So to give up this opportunity is a very big loss. So what Lord Caitanya is teaching to His students will be further described. But it is also very late. We will end here and tomorrow we will continue with the Lord Vishwambhar’s teachings. Any questions?
So Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur he gave the purport where he explained how Srimad Bhagavatam called the people who give up the service of Krishna, and explained the things being separate from Hari. He gave three verses from the Srimad Bhagavatam, that such people are jivan mrtya living dead, jivan shava or dead bodies, or svasan shava, dead although breathing.
I remember how Srila Prabhupad was sitting in the airport he was going somewhere and people were walking by rushing to get the tickets, boarding passes. So he was saying that all these people are living dead. Because if you don’t serve Krishna, we are living to die. If we serve Krishna, we die to live. Haribol!
