Mukham karoti…

Tomorrow is Aksaya Tritiya. The day when any pious activity or any spiritual activity is performed lasts forever. So you can think what you want to do something special tomorrow. I am donating a flag to the planetarium dome of the TOVP. I can tell that because I have already done it! There are still two more domes left, center and Nrsimha. Or if you want to give a tile, a brick, 7000 rupees, Nrsinga tile 51,000 rupees, you will get a Nrsinga medal also. Some of you may want to give something to the deities. I found out about this, one yearI was at some namahatta program, and I came back late and lived on the roof here. So on the first floor there was a family waiting for me. It was already 10 o clock, I said, what are you waiting for? It is Aksaya Tritiya; I want to give you a donation. I went to the next floor, there was another family waiting. I said, what are you waiting for? They said, you! They said I want to give a donation for Aksaya Tritiya. In this way, every floor I went to there was someone waiting. Then I realized that Aksaya Tritiya is a very special day. So nice to see devotees at mangala arati and I watch the mangala arati every morning. I think that our matajis ladies could learn how to dance in a style in which Indradyumna maharaj gets the ladies to dance. He has the ladies do the kind of Bharata natyam dance. I can’t rally imitate it! Ha! But we used to have some devotees on safari who could do that dancing. They all danced in unison and kept the feminine aspect. Just waving hands up and down and jumping, that is more like men. They dance shu shu shu! Tejorupa devi dasi, Iveshwara’s wife, was an expert dancer. So any way, it is nice to see the devotees, new bhaktas, they all dance in unison. They do the sanyas step, raise their hands and do shu shu shu. Anyway, apparently in 2015 I already talked about Lord Nityananda travelling all over India with the sanyasi, and how He met Madhavendra Puri, how He got initiation and then He returned to Mathura. So we are starting from His return to Mathura.

In this way Nityananda Prabhu travelled to all the thirthas around India. Thirtha meaning holy places of pilgrimage. After seeing all these places, Lord Nityananda returned to Mathura.

No one was able to recognize Nityananda as the origin of Anantadev. He loudly roared seeing His previous birthplace.

He was always in the mood of a child; He didn’t display any other mood. He sported in the dust of Vrndavan. He never endeavored for His meals. He rolled in the dust in Vrndavan in the mood of a child.

No one could understand His merciful nature. He only ate the mellows of Krsna consciousness. He did not eat anything but the mellows of Krsna consciousness.

Some days He would drink some milk, if someone offered Him without Him asking. No one could understand Lord Nityananda Prabhu’s pastimes of rolling in the dust of Vrndavan. So all the living entities require food to maintain their bodies. But when one’s constitutional propensities are awakened, he loses interest in accumulating anything other than the mellows of service to Visnu and the vaishnavas. Nityananda Prabhu maintained His body simply by occasionally drinking milk which He received without asking.

In this way, Nityananda lived in Vrndavan, while in Navadvip, Lord Gauracandra revealed Himself.

Lord Gauranga, He was constantly performing sankirtan in great happiness but He became unhappy on not seeing Lord Nityananda.

“Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur’s commentary:

While Mahaprabhu was constantly and happily engaged in propagating sankirtan at Navadvip, He felt distressed because of Nityananda Prabhu’s absence.”

When Nityananda understood that Lord Gauranga had manifested Himself in Navadvip, He was waiting for this moment in Vrndavan. So Nityananda was waiting for the auspicious moment when Lord Gauranga would manifest Himself.

Knowing this, He came immediately to Navadvip, and coming, He remained at the house of Nandan Acarya.

“Nandan Acarya the 17th branch of the Caitanya tree celebrated within the world because the two Prabhus, Lord Caitanya and Lord Nityananda, sometimes hid in his house. Purport by Srila Prabhupada: Nandan Acarya was another companion of Caitanya Mahaprabhu during His kirtana pastimes in Navadvip. Srila Nityananda Prabhu as avadoot, travelled on many pilgrimages. When He first came to Sri Navadvip Dham, He remained hidden in the house of Nandan Acarya. It is there that he met all the devotees of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu. When Caitanya Mahaprabhu exhibited His maha prakash, He asked Ramai pandit to call Advaita Prabhu who was hiding in the home of Nanda Acarya for Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu could understand that He was hiding. Similarly, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu also sometimes hid in the home of Nandan Acarya. In this connection, one may refer to Caitanya Bhagavat Madhya kanda chapters 6 and 17.”

Nandan Acarya was the best of the maha bhagavatas and he saw Lord Nityananda having a bodily effulgence, equal to the sun. So in the 11th canto of the Srimad Bhagavatam, 11.2.45, it is confirmed that the advanced devotee sees within everything the Soul of souls, Sri Krsna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. So since Nityananda Prabhu is the foremost of all liberated souls, Lord Nityananda Prabhu is the origin of all pure devotees of the Lord. He is the most effulgent, and is the basis of spiritual illumination. The reflection of His bodily effulgence revives the living entities’ realization of their constitutional positon. Those who are under Lord Nityananda’s shelter can also have similar effulgence. In the material consciousness or conception of life, there is an absence of spiritual effulgence. Until one receives spiritual realization, he cannot be freed from forgetting his real identity. So when the spiritual effulgence emanates from Lord Nityananda, it destroys the darkness of ignorance, enters the heart of the person, and vanquishes the darkness of ignorance. Lord Nityananda’s effulgence ki jau! Gauranga! Nityananda, Gauranga! Nityananda! Gauranga! Nityananda! Gauranga!

Lord Nityananda appeared as a great avadoot, with a large body. He was always grave and most sober. So when a sanyasi achieves perfection in the sanyas order of life, he becomes indifferent to external renunciation, and they are known as avadootas. So a strict sanyasi, he becomes known as a learned sanyasi or avadoota. Of course, Sri Nityananda Prabhu was the topmost of the avadootas. His gravity and extreme patience were observed by Nandan Acarya.

Day and night, He was chanting the names of Krsna. In the three worlds, was the comparable abode of Lord Caitanya. So Lord Nityananda was always engaged in chanting the names of Lord Krsna. Lord Caitanya has pervaded the three worlds on the support of Lord Nityananda. Sri Nityananda Prabhu is the unparalleled effulgence of Sri Caitanyadev. He is like the blazing sun, in dissipating the darkness of the conditioned souls of identifying themselves as enjoyers. So Lord Nityananda is Himself most expert in the pastimes of rendering the ten forms of service to Lord Caitanya. No one can be compared with Him. He is the basis of the Supreme Lord manifesting among the living entities.

Sometimes in His own ecstasy, He would roar loudly, greatly intoxicated, He would act like Balaram, like Balaram’s incarnation. Sometimes Lord Nityananda would loudly roar in ecstasy. In this way, He would manifest His pastime and identity in this world. He was fully intoxicated to constantly assist Lord Caitanya’s pastimes of distributing love of Godhead. Just as Sri Baladeva fully engaged in the service of Sri Krsna in Vraja. So in Gaudadesh, Gaura Mandala Bhumi where Lord Caitanya enjoyed His pastimes, the intoxicated mood, and emotional ecstasy of Nityananda Prabhu captured people’s hearts. Audi break here Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare. So Lord Nityananda’s ananda or bliss is fully transcendental and unlimited, because He is the Supreme Lord. this material world happiness of the conditioned souls is limited, and we cannot compare with the unlimitedly happiness or bliss of the Supreme Lord. But if one thinks that Lord Nityananda’s ecstasy is something mundane, it is very offensive. Since Lord Nityananda is the origin of the Visnu tattvas, we should not consider that His body and His self are different. If they think in that way, they will certainly be bewildered in their attempts to realize the true meaning of the Lord’s tasting His own ecstasy. So thank you very much. We will continue tomorrow, on Aksaya Tritiya day. Are there any questions?

Question: Kaivalya Sundari devi dasi: What are the 10 ways that Lord Nityananda served Lord Caitanya?

Guru maharaj: We read that how as Anantadev, He was the Lord’s brahmin thread, His clothes, umbrella, bed, so many things. I don’t remember all the things. But everything that the Lord uses, is manifested by Anantadev, who is an aspect of the Lord. Umbrella, slippers, bedding, pillow, garments, ornaments, resting chair, residence, sacred thread and throne.

Question: What happened to Lord Nityananda’s childhood friends? We couldn’t find much mention of them.

Guru maharaj: Many of the associates of Lord Nityananda were dwadasa Gopals and I don’t know if the children in Ekacakra were the same ones. I don’t know if they are the ones who joined Lord Caitanya and Lord Nityananda, and participated in the pastimes of Lord Nityananda preaching in Bengal. I would think so, but didn’t see a particular verse connecting the two. I will keep an eye out, if there is any connection.

Question: Vijaya Radha devi dasi: Dearest guru maharaj, Why the most merciful Lord Nityananda did not turn around to look at his father and loving devotees, when He left Ekacakra with the anyasi? Thank you very much

Guru maharaj: It is said that Bhagavan is the possessor of six qualities in full and one of those is renunciation So He can leave and be fully renounced. Just like He makes the material world and He is not present here except occasionally, as avatar.

Question: What do we do for Aksaya Tritiya?

Guru maharaj: Do something special. One time I asked Srila Prabhupada what we should do on some of these special days. He said like well, just like the store has a sale, to attract new customers. You are already a regular customer; you are there every day. This is specially to attract new customers. So like that these special days, they can inspire new customers, we want them to do some devotional service. But if they are already doing all the service then they get the benefit of all the days, regular days and the special days. So Srila Prabhupada answered that way. Still I am thinking oh well, I want to give something to the planetarium. So why not give on Aksaya Ha! But everything I have is Krsna’s anyway. By my example maybe, I will inspire others to increase their devotional service. Last question

Question: Hare Krsna guru maharaj. Please accept my respectful obeisances. (Guru maharaj said: Accepted. Do you accept my blessings?) Yes I do, guru maharaj. Vishwarup the brother of Lord Caitanya, is He Balaram or is there any relation between Nityananda Prabhu and Vishwarup?

Guru maharaj: Vishwarup is Maha Sankarsana, so He is an expansion of Lord Nityananda, expansion of Lord Balaram. Nitai is Balaram. So Nityananda was helping Lord Caitanya as His elder brother in His childhood, and He specially came when the sankirtan movement started as Nityananda Prabhu. Haribol! Thank you!
