Jayapataka Swami: If your guru has told you to follow your immediate authority, and the immediate authority doesn’t tell you to do something which is against the order of the guru, then you can take that the request of the service given by the immediate authority is a request given by the guru. If you have some doubt, you can bring it up to the immediate authority, but if it contradicts some order that your guru gave you, like say, your guru tells you, never commit suicide and the immediate authority says, jump off the bridge, then you don’t follow because that is against the guru’s order. Also your immediate authority may be a little bit crazy!
