How Can We Help?

Question: In our Bhaktivedanta National School, we are trying to preach to the students. Since there are a mix of our community devotee children and others, sometimes I feel that we are going two steps forward and three steps backward. Kindly advise how to address this situation?

Jayapataka Swami:  Although I heard that the National School students, play the drams and are very reciprocative in different celebrations of holy days, so the report I got was that they were very receptive. But in general it is difficult for young people to take up Krsna consciousness. Krsna will give you the intelligence how to do that. You see, Srila Prabhupada said that those who follow Islam, they could do their namaaz, five times a day. If they are staying here, they should chant their japa and attend the mangala arati. So he was very open. If people chant Hare Krsna, attend the arati, they can also do their Islamic practices of five times a day, namaaz. So Srila Prabhupada was liberal in that sense that he accepted any kind of bhakti yoga that was practiced. But he wanted them also to chant Hare Krsna and participate in the classes and other programs.
